Seriality & Transmedia

“Transmedia storytelling is the ideal aesthetic form for an era of collective intelligence. Pierre Levy coined the term, collective intelligence, to refer to new social structures that enable the production and circulation of knowledge within a networked society” (Jenkins). This course delves into the complexity of seriality and transmedia storytelling, which is a process in which fiction is dispersed systematically across multiply delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience. Examples include narratives told across multiple platforms like film, animated shorts, comic books, and video games.

Students will immerse themselves in story universes such as The Matrix, Batman, The Blair Witch Project, Blade Runner, Lost, Star Wars and more.
